Parrot
Behavior Counseling
involves
the establishment or modification of conduct in companion parrots.
Whether you are seeking to change unwanted behaviors or merely to
prevent them, expect to enjoy every moment of this exciting process. Now
you have an ally in forming strategies for a happy long-term
relationship with your bird.
In-home
counseling is preferable and is available in Tulsa and Oklahoma City and
in cities where I am touring. I am available for limited traveling
assignments.
Each new
case is evaluated individually to determine whether my services would be
helpful. Much of my one-on-one counseling is now done by phone, fax, and
e-mail. This can be good, but it can also be challenging, as the sights,
sounds, smells, and feels of the home are all factors that contribute to
the bird’s behavior. Fresh case updates are needed before each telephone
counseling
session. Diagrams or photos may be required to accurately plan for
behavior modification and maintenance.
Most
introductory telephone programs are about two hours, usually in four
30-minute sessions about a week apart. Clients are given assignments and
report back with the bird’s responses before the next session.
Depending upon your parrot and upon your commitment and resolve, an
introductory program is probably sufficient to reach most reasonable
goals. On-going programs are available when changing seasons have their
inevitable effect.
If you are
concerned about feather condition, be sure to collect an assortment of
feather samples from the bottom of the cage, especially include molted,
chewed, and/or damaged feathers. Separate them by date.
Telephone
consultations are often scheduled back-to back, so promptness and
attention to elapsed time are important. Make a list of pressing
questions before placing your call. If you must reschedule an
appointment, please try to do so at least 24 hours in advance.
I may be
difficult to reach without an appointment. If you live in any time zone
except Central, please advise hours you are available for a return call.
Please mention if you have a behavioral emergency, and I will make every
effort to call as soon as I receive your message, regardless of the
hour. If you leave a message and do not hear from me within two business
days, your message may have been lost or damaged, please call again. Be
sure to leave your telephone number each time you leave a message.
