Watch Baloo Grow Feathers

This is Baloo on February 15, 2001.
She did not have a bath today.
Instead, she was treated to
a nice box of pop-up tissues.

Baloo spent almost an hour
frantically shredding tissues
and arranging and rearranging them instead of time spent recovering from her shower on previous days.

This new behavioral opportunity
was introduced in an effort to put
her feather damaging behaviors even farther "behind" her by replacing
a behavior we replaced
feather damaging behavior with.

Note the bright white new feathers
under the jaw line as the area of
untouched feathers of the head expand.

This is a close up of
 one broken contour feather
 on Baloo's back.

Because a broken feather would be the first feather snapped off, we are watching this feather
 carefully to monitor
 whether damaging behaviors
 are stopped or ongoing.
